The Dog Island Run 2014

Guemes Island Library's 17th Annual

Dog Island Run

Saturday, June 7, 2014
10:45 am Start Time

10K Run (6.2 miles) starts at 10:45 am, School House Park, Guemes Island, Washington 98221

Two mile (3.2K) walk starts at 10:55 am.

Thank you for your interest in the 17th Annual Dog Island 10K Run/2 Mile Walk on Guemes Island! We are located approximately 80 miles north of Seattle.

Proceeds from our event go to benefit our volunteer operated Guemes Island Library.

The 10-k course (below) is quite scenic with views of the San Juan Islands, boats, beaches and wildlife. While there are some hills on the course, the deep forest stillness contrasting with sweeping ocean views makes for a truly unique running experience. Our 10k course is USATF certified.

Online Registration is now closed. You may register on the day of the race.

The 2 Mile Walk event is also available for individuals and family members who want to get in on the fun of the event at a less strenuous pace.

Awards are given to the top men and women finishers. Award ribbons are given to men/women 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each of seven age groups. The awards ceremony is followed by a random prize drawing with gifts/prizes made available by Guemes Island and Anacortes artists and merchants. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy yourself at the park!

Park & Ride

We recommend race participants catch the 9:15 or 9:45 sailing from Anacortes.

Since there is limited parking on the island, we encourage all participants and their families to board the ferry as "walk-ons" - once you arrive on the island, a free shuttle bus transfers participants and their families to the starting point of the race, at School House Park, approximately 2 miles from the ferry dock.

The free shuttle bus also returns participants and families back to the ferry dock at the end of the event. In past years, some participants have simply chosen to take their bicycles on the ferry and ride to the park.

Porta Potties and water stations are located at different points on the 10K and 2 Mile courses, as well as at the park.

The 2013 Dog Island Run
"With lightening speed, Curtis Easton was first across the finish line with a time of 35:57.  This is the fifth time Curtis has taken first place in the Dog Island 10K.  Miran McCash captured the women’s title with an equally impressive finish of 45:29." [Race Results Updated] [Read more]
